Have you ever been camping with a hammock?

Spring has almost been replaced by summer, at least in terms of temperatures. And that means: get outside! The camping season is in full swing and soon all camping enthusiasts will again be flocking to campsites all over Europe. Those of you who are looking for an extraordinary camping experience should really consider camping with a hammock.

Leisure hammocks are becoming increasingly popular and help us to enjoy the outdoors in an even more relaxed way

Have you ever been camping with a hammock? If not, here is everything you need to know and tips & tricks:

The right hammock

Not all hammocks are the same. For those of you who also want to sleep outdoors, choosing the right hammock is crucial.

The perfect camping hammock must be light, compact and durable. Not only should your hammock provide a comfortable place to sleep, it should also be light and small (packed) enough so that it can be taken along effortlessly.

The right suspension

A common mistake when hanging is trying to hang the hammock far too tightly between the two anchor points. This can lead to a cocooning effect and be really uncomfortable. Instead, the hammock should be hung with a soft sag. This lowers the centre of gravity and makes the hammock more stable, definitely much more comfortable and harder to fall out of.

The right sleeping position

While hammock camping is a really great way to enjoy the outdoors, waking up with aches and stiffness can ruin even the most beautiful outdoor experience. When sleeping in a hammock, it is important to find the most comfortable and healthy position. Surprisingly, not many people know that hammocks are designed for lying on the diagonal.

If you lie across the fabric in this position, a physically restful sleep is ensured. Your head and feet drop down while your body lies ergonomically flat over the hammock.

The mosquito net, rain tarp and drip line

When camping, you never know what to expect in nature. To enjoy a good night's sleep and avoid unexpected disturbances, always take an insect net and a rain tarp with you. No one likes insects buzzing around and bugging them at night, and mosquito bites can be particularly annoying. A full-length mosquito net can completely enclose your hammock and protect it from unwanted visitors.

But sudden changes in the weather can be just as troublesome. On really rainy days, water can seep through the suspension and get the hammock wet. To prevent this, attach a drip line to the suspension, which is placed under the tarpaulin. This way, the water drips down the line instead of getting into the hammock.

Stay warm

When camping, weather conditions can change from one moment to the next. So make sure you are prepared if temperatures drop overnight. In most cases, a sleeping bag is not enough to stay warm in a hammock. You may need an extra layer of insulation under the sleeping bag.

We would recommend an option that is lighter, easy to pack and doesn't take up too much space.

This can be, for example, a light, mobile heating pad or a wireless heating blanket. Whatever you choose, it is an investment you will have for many years!
